Welcome to the Barnyard Theatre! The very first Barnyard Theatre was open way back in 1996, on a dairy farm of all places out in Plettenberg Bay. The co-founders have both been highly involved in the performing arts and at the time converted their Dairy barn into a rustic America style theatre set, opening the very first Barnyard Theatre in South Africa.
Today there are loads of Barnyard Theatre’s around the country including Emperors Palace Barnyard (East Rand), Cresta Barnyard (Randburg), Rivonia Barnyard (Sunninghill), Pretoria Barnyard (Moreleta Park), Cape Town Barnyard (Tyger Valley) and Gateway Barnyard (Umhlanga).
The concept is over 19 years old and the theatre itself has produced some truly spectacular shows including Roll Over Beethoven, Kids Rock the Hits, Amadeus Rocks, 90s Mania and many others.
The vibe at the Barnyard is relaxed and food and drinks can be purchased at the venue for enjoyment whilst you watch the shows. You can also bring your own picnic basket along if you wish, (but all drinks must to be purchased at the venue.) You can also pre-order your meals to avoid the rush prior to the start of the performances.
Although some of our shows may only be suitable for more mature audiences, there are loads of theatre productions available for kids to enjoy as well so check out our show schedule on our website. Bring the kids along and enjoy the sweet sounds of some of South Africa’s best local musicians or experience great talent with shows like Kids Rock the Hits – a must see with your children.
For a fun family evening out on the town, ensure to visit us at a Barnyard Theatre near you and experience some of the best local talent around.
